## MCP server

- Endpoint: `https://motionreference.com/mcp` (streamable HTTP; OAuth with dynamic client registration and PKCE, or an API key as `Authorization: Bearer`).
- Server card: https://motionreference.com/.well-known/mcp.json. Listing tools and prompts needs no sign-in.

Tools:

- `search_references`: Find published marketing videos by creative intent and exact taxonomy filters. Returns a page of the best matches: { total, offset, next, results }, 10 by default (limit raises it to 30); pass next as offset for the following page. Each result is a compact summary: id, title, company, duration, year, type, objective, industry, medium, style, techniques, structure, pace, description, link and a moment outline (id, timecode, title). Call get_reference or get_breakdown with an id for credits, observations, audio, links and full moments, and get_frames to see it.
- `get_reference`: Read everything about one published video, or a moment and its video: credits, year, duration, type, objective, industry, audience, medium, style, techniques, structure, pace, audio, format, aspect ratio, description, observations, every timestamped moment, and watch/original/page links.
- `search_moments`: Find timestamped sequences inside published videos by creative intent and exact taxonomy filters (filters apply to the parent video). Returns a page of the best moments: { total, offset, next, results }, 10 by default (limit raises it to 30); pass next as offset for the following page. Each result: id, timecode, title, description, tags, link, and a short summary of its video (id, title, company, duration, type, structure, pace, techniques, link). Call get_reference or get_breakdown with the moment or video id for the full record, and get_frames to see it.
- `get_breakdown`: Study a published video or moment: the full record with narrative structure, observations and every timestamped moment (same data as get_reference). Pair it with get_frames to see what the words describe.
- `get_frames`: See a published video or moment: real frames from the film, returned as images with their timecodes. For a moment: one 3×3 filmstrip image of 9 frames spread evenly across it, a few tenths of a second apart, so you can see how its motion and transitions unfold (until that is built, up to count overview frames from inside the moment, about 2 s apart). For a video: count overview frames spread across the whole film (default 8). The first text block says the status: "ready", "pending" (not built yet; try again when it says) or "unavailable" (with the reason). Descriptions name techniques but can't show framing, scale, texture, colour or type, so look at the frames of any reference you're drawing from before designing.
- `get_related_references`: Find published videos most like this one. With a mode, ranks by shared style, techniques or structure first, then by how close the videos are overall; without one, by overall similarity of their full write-ups. A moment id stands for its video. Returns a page { total, offset, next, results } (6 by default, up to 30); each result says what it shares with the source.
- `get_taxonomy`: Get the filter keys and exact values search_references and search_moments accept (filters also take "duration", a maximum length in seconds).
- `list_boards`: List the user's boards (their Saved page on Motion Reference): id, name, video count and link. Every account starts with a board called Shortlist.
- `get_board`: Read one of the user's boards: its name and every saved video with full details, newest saved first.
- `save_reference` (changes boards; only when the user asks): Save published videos to one of the user's boards when they ask: one id, or up to 30 ids at once. A moment id saves its video. Call list_boards first and ask which board if it isn't clear. Saving twice is harmless. Needs save permission: if the call is refused, ask the user to reconnect Motion Reference and allow saving.
- `unsave_reference` (changes boards; only when the user asks): Remove a video from one of the user's boards when they ask. A moment id removes its video. Needs save permission: if the call is refused, ask the user to reconnect Motion Reference and allow saving.
- `create_board` (changes boards; only when the user asks): Create a board when the user asks, optionally saving videos into it straight away (up to 30). Needs save permission: if the call is refused, ask the user to reconnect Motion Reference and allow saving.
- `rename_board` (changes boards; only when the user asks): Rename one of the user's boards when they ask. Needs save permission: if the call is refused, ask the user to reconnect Motion Reference and allow saving.
- `delete_board` (changes boards; only when the user asks): Delete one of the user's boards and everything saved on it, only when the user asks for that board to be deleted. It can't be undone. Needs save permission: if the call is refused, ask the user to reconnect Motion Reference and allow saving.

Prompts:

- `find_references`: Turn a creative brief into a shortlist of marketing videos and the moments worth studying.
- `break_down_video`: Study how one reference works: structure, pacing, techniques and its key moments.
